DESIGN PROJECTS
Design principles play an important part in the Southbury Garden Club’s goals. Three members are required to design arrangements for each monthly meeting. A certain theme or design, such as mass, line, underwater, driftwood, and see through designs has all been featured
recently.
Education in design principles is provided. Club member Rita Mixer, an award winning
floral designer in numerous flower shows at the local, state and regional
level, regularly teaches free workshops for members. Each workshop features a different design principle.
Rita recently earned another blue ribbon at the Federated Garden Clubs of
CT Standard Flower Show at the Civic Center in Hartford in February 2011.
All members are encouraged to participate in local, regional and even national flower shows.
The next workshop is tentatively planned for October 14th.
Designer's Choice Workshop
A "Designer's Choice" workshop was
held on May 6th in the community room at
the Stop and Shop in Southbury. These arrangements were donated to
the Southbury Public Library for use during their 5th Anniversary
Celebration on Saturday, May 7th.

Mass Design Workshop
Club members display their arrangements following a Mass Line Design Workshop taught by Rita Mixer on April 30, 2010.
More examples of members’ designs are featured on our Picture Gallery page.
